The Huckster

Mike Huckabee ANNOYS ME. And he has big ears.

He seems like a decent man, although I would not vote for him because:

-- He's from Arkansas and past politicians from there have given the place a bad name.

-- Seems to play up his religious background in self righteous ways. "Well, I have a THEOLOGY DEGREE, so I know the Bible better than you do."

Pharisees in Christ's day also had advanced learning from the religious establishments of the time, yet Christ chose his apostles mainly from among the unlearned. Not to knock scripture study, I think it is vital to study God's word, but not as a means to put yourself above others.

-- Jimmy Carter was also highly religious. Baptist? Methodist? Can't remember. Anyway, his piety did not make him a decent president. No, no no, didn't help him at all!

-- Record of tax increases, along with various ethics issues related to money.

-- He's neither cute, nor tall. Now that Mitt guy, he's distinguished! (And is a lot more modest about his religious accomplishments.) Some say Obama is cute, but he kinda looks like a spider monkey (and has too much love for excessive government programs).

I do agree that it is good to have a leader who supports the Christian government set up by our founding fathers and cares about the lives of the innocent, but being a professional clergyman or pro-gun/pro-life ain't enough. I want someone who will be a strong face for America, stand up to foreign and domestic bullies and try to give more freedom to the individual, and less money and power to Congress and wasteful programs.

A lot of conservatives lately are bashing on Mormons again because of Mitt Romney, which makes me want to vote for him out of spite just because of how many 'evangelicals' or whatever hate Mormons. "Mitt needs to tell us, did he take an Oath of Vengeance on the United States?!" (They are referring to old endowment covenants, of which I'm not familiar, so I don't know how accurate their claims are.)

Huck's a smug Richard Cranium. Today's speech by Romney was one more thing that made me think he just may be my guy.

I wanted to like Fred, I really did, but he just doesn't seem to have the fire. Mitt Romney does.

If I listen to people in the media or in the online community (many being paid by other candidates), Romney's too perfect looking or not genuine enough because his position has changed on a few things (though his actions have been consistent all along). Well, when I listen to him speak off the cuff, he sounds like the guy I'd like to see in charge (granted, some debate answers have been stiff, but the others' have been too). Today's speech, while not off the cuff, was still the kind of stuff I like to hear.

And look at it this way; we could do a HELL of a lot worse for the first Mormon prez (though even the retards that elected Clinton wouldn't do the same for Dinghy Harry Reid.

well the whole thing about Mitt changing his mind too much bugs me. What I can't change my mind? Whatever. That doesn't mean I will vote for him though cause its too early to decide. The only thing I do know is I won't vote for hilary cause I know the only reason she's running is cause she wants to have sex in the oval office and show Bill a what for. But mike sure did lose a lot of weight which shows some strength right and he wrote a really good book about it. I think he looks funny cause he used to be so fat. Obama totally looks like a spider monkey though. hehe. I am sure everyone knows by now that I am not much in to politics--it doesn't really interest me. Hell this year is the first time I voted and probably against something you guys would've loved. (vouchers) So if I had to vote tomorrow I would pick the guy that shares my religion cause he can't be all that bad right? Its good to see a new blog I didn't know where you went. and thanks for the b-day present for the three of us.

Priestcraft. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up!

When I first posted, I'd written a longer response that I lost, but I thought I'd touch on the oath thing, because I've read it in the past. Here's a good explanation (even if it is from Wikipedia):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Neighbor_policy_(LDS_Church)

I don't see where anyone is promising to 'bring down' the U.S. and I don't have a problem with what was promised.

I've had mixed emotions reading the myriad responses to Romney's candidacy on various blogs. Between the evangelical zealots crying hellfire and damnation on our souls and the crybaby Mormons who inexplicably seem to care about how they feel, I don't know who I'm more annoyed by. It's pretty obvious that if you accept the typical evangelical description of what makes one a 'true' Christian, Mormons aren't. So what? We claim they're wrong (of course, we do so a lot less stridently). Why does any Mormon care what a non-Mormon thinks about their salvation..?

I actually wouldn't mind vouchers per se but these vouchers only allowed for up to 3000 dollars per student based upon income. How is any working family supposed to supplement the tuition of their 3-8kids so that they can go to private school? Private school tuition can be up to 20,000 and beyond so 3000 dollars doesn't really help anyone. Even the families who could afford to supplement the tuition wouldn't get the full 3000 dollars because they would be too rich. It just seemed like a bad first go at vouchers. Plus it's hard for me to say that the teachers in private schools would be better than the teachers in public schools. They certainly don't have to have the education and ongoing training that public schools require. I'm sure if we stuck only 12-15 upper class students into each public school classroom we would have just as good of results as the private schools are getting. In order to compare then two you have to have the same standards and circumstances for both. There may be a time I vote for vouchers if they get it right. But I would like to see money for each student no matter where you choose to stick your kids. In fact I would like 3000 bucks per student to home school.

Right now the only thing that matters is that you and your family are in our prayers, LeeAnn!
