Jacob Reynolds Carlston

Okay, we have a new little guy so I gotta put up pictures. Yeah, we gotta get some with his eyes open and making another facial expression. He's actually very smiley, it's just hard to make him keep the smile as we grab the camera.
Amazing thing about Jacob: Whenever he 'spits up', nothing comes out! He just swallows it, politely refraining from messing up blankets and shirts.
He kinda looked like Uncle Ross the first day, but I'm happy to see he's been shedding that look.

Blood Types

Didn't it used to be standard that when you had a baby, the hospital automatically told you their blood type?

Well, American Fork Hospital would NOT do a blood type test on Jacob, even though they had his cord blood and could have done one.

Isn't it pretty easy to get a blood type? I totally remember doing this in junior high science class! We pricked our fingers to get some blood, then put it in some solution and figured out which type we were. Why is it such a big deal for AFH???!!!

Anyway, this is VERY important so we know our son's personality. Har har har. (And some people think each blood type requires a different diet.) But like, shouldn't we know?

Here's a bit on blood types and personality -- do you match? (I think it's probably general enough to apply to anyone, though.)

Blood Type and Personality
There are four blood types: O, A, AB and B, with blood type A being the most common where so much research on blood types have been focused -- in Japan. In fact, 74% of the Japanese are blood type A. I find it interesting that the Japanese diet very much favors those with blood type A.

"B" type, the second most common blood type, does not do well on soy, or soba (buckwheat) common foods eaten in Japan. Fish is an important protein for B's and the Japanese consume more fish that any country in the world. Lamb, an important protein for B's, is not available there.

Here are some examples of blood type and personality, based on James and Peter D'Adamo's work:

Blood Type A - Tend to be cooperative, sensitive, clever, passionate and smart. Often bottling up anxiety in order to get along with others, they may hold in their emotions until they explode. Many are tense, impatient and unable to sleep well. While they are capable of leadership positions, they may not take them because the stress is not good for their tightly wired systems. In Japan many "A"'s are in research. They have roles in discovering more about and refining science, economics, manufacturing, etc. Their research on microflora and other areas of medicine is some of the best and most meticulous in the world. They are perfectionists to say the least. This quality shows up in their perfecting electronics like TV's and also less expensive more efficient cars that were originally created here in the US.Blood type A's tend to have more sensitive constitutions. Too much stress weakens their immunity more quickly than other blood types. Low stomach acid is common among blood type A's even from birth, so special care should be taken when eating animal proteins. Using digestive enzymes, like Assist Dairy and Protein, along with consuming fermented foods and drinks is really a must for A's. It is not surprising to me that fermented foods like Miso and Natto play an important role in providing easily digested protein, in the Japanese Diet. They also eat raw fish which is much easier to digest than cooked.

Blood Type B - Blood type B individuals tend to be balanced: thoughtful like A's and yet ambitious like O's. They are empathetic, easily understanding others' points of view, yet often hesitating to challenge or confront. Chameleon-like and flexible, they make good friends.
Peter D'Adamo found that While their immunity is strong, they are more prone to slow-growing viral infections like lupus, MS and chronic fatigue.

They may also have problems with hypoglycemia and blood sugar, especially if they eat the wrong foods.

Blood Type AB - Tend to be very charming and popular. They don't sweat the small stuff and can be seen as spiritual and even at times a bit "flaky". Only about 2 - 5% of the population are blood type AB. There is never a dull moment in a AB's life, so if you find one for a friend, consider yourself lucky! Youll enjoy some exciting times together!Like blood type A's, AB's react to stress poorly. They are stronger and more active than type A's, but need to pay attention to stress levels so that they don't compromise their immunity. Sometimes it is difficult to be an AB. AB's don't like to fit in anyone else's "boxes". If they feel too confined, they'll break out of that box and do things their own way. When it comes to food choices and AB must discover when they are more B-like or A-like. For example, dairy foods like milk kefir can be excellent for them or not good at all.

Blood Type O - Tend to be loners or leaders and are intuitive, focused, self-reliant and daring. They handle stress better than other blood types and have strong immune systems, a well developed physique and a physically active nature. Blood type O's tend to have sluggish blood flow and feel better with vigorous exercise for about an hour each day.

Squid's Hard Day

Old Man C here;

On Tuesday at LeeAnn's Doctor's appointment, they were a little worried about her blood pressure and almost sent her to the hospital. They had her rest a while instead and decided to have her come in on Friday to see how things were going. When she went in today things weren't any better, so after a bunch of tests they sent her home with strict orders for bed rest. They also sent along a Super Big Gulp sized container with instrutions to pee in it and keep in on ice until tomorrow morning when she'll be going in again. (I know, TMI ;)

So she's resting up but worried that your lives won't be complete until you see her new favorite dancer. I think this may be part of her problem, but in the spirit of keeping her happy, I present to you: Goddess Bunny!

Enjoy...

WOW, That Was Close...

Whoa, I had a very, very scary experience today. I have no doubt that the Lord was there protecting us.

How many hours do we spend driving here and there, the usual places, following the usual traffic rules... when suddenly another driver does something VERY reckless and stupid and kills someone?

I was out driving in our little compact 2-door car with Joseph in his car seat behind me. I stopped in the left-turn lane at the red light and waited. The traffic perpendicular to me stopped when the red light came for them. I received a green left-turn arrow and casually proceeded into the intersection to make my left turn, when suddenly a huge truck came barrelling toward us from my left at probably 50-60 MPH. I slammed on my brakes within what seemed an inch from the truck, as it continued through past us. LUCKILY. (Although at the split second when I first noticed it coming, I thought it would surely hit us; it was RIGHT THERE.)

I thought, what the *#&$%^!??? WHY?????!!! I guess they saw the light go yellow for them from hundreds of feet back, then floored it to get through the light, only to enter the intersection when it was long red. What the $*$%^# were they thinking!!????!!

Well, sure, THEY wouldn't have been hurt in that huge truck of theirs. But we would've been totalled, car and us. Now, if I were single and it would have been just me, sure, some people would've been sad at my death and stuff. But I am one week from bringing a new, precious soul into this world. Not only would I have been likely killed or seriously maimed, but this new baby and sweet, little 2-year old Joseph would probably have been lost, their innocent lives cut short by some idiot trying to run a red light for whatever lame, irresponsible reason.

I'd love to have gotten their license plate number -- that sort of thing is too dangerous to be tolerated.

All I could do was cry and pray to Heavenly Father in thanks for mercifully not allowing a potential tragedy. I'm pretty sure he did not spare us on my account... unless he's giving me more earth time for all the major repenting I need to do. I believe he did it for the two little boys there with me who obviously have a bit more they need to do on this earth before returning to their Father in Heaven.

This Sounds Like 2007 USA/Europe

“A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.” —Samuel Adams

Take a look at many of the 'peaceniks' since the days of Vietnam... In many instances these are people who have very little moral compass in their own lives, yet self-righteously proclaim, 'Live and let live." Would they ever bother to lift a finger in order to save their own loved ones from danger? Is it a greater sin to allow your children to be tortured and killed than to kill an enemy, a genuine threat to your life and liberty?

Do the stoner peace-proclaimers know what sharia law is, and would they be fine with living in submission to Islam? (Some of you may laugh and think this would never happen in the U.S. ...uh, ever read the Book of Mormon?)

They do not really care about peace. If so, they would work to make the world more peaceful instead of letting barbarians trample all over innocent people. They are just lazy.

I hear many claim that we should merely 'pray for peace' and have compassion on our enemies. Are these peace preachers showing compassion for barbarians -- guys who laugh maniacally and shout, "Allah Allah Allah!" as they set themselves on fire -- at the expense of their own?

Of course we should always pray for peace, pray for people to turn their hearts toward what is good. But when they don't, when they are hell-bent on our destruction, I think God expects us to take a stand and protect our lives, liberties and religion. Prayer alone will not feed the poor widow next door. It will not keep a murderer from killing again.

This quote can also apply to the massive influx of illegal immigrants who, by not assimilating or even respecting our laws and culture, are changing us into a nation of divided cultures and languages, in which we no longer band together as Americans. We no longer trust or understand each other. And laws are subjugated to a version of 'tolerance' that elevates the desires of one group above another. It is not true tolerance to put up with something that harms or robs from others. If I tolerate a crackhead living in my home, I am robbing my own family of safety.

Sure, others bring pieces of their native cultures that are enriching to our nation, but along with that often comes a sense that all government is always corrupt and runs only on bribery, violence or totalitarian control. (This is especially true of those coming here illegally -- laws and respectfulness do not seem to matter to them.) We are gradually losing sight of the values that created our nation and made it a place of opportunity and prosperity. Our own politicians are fomenting this by playing to special interests or agendas that may not be for the common good. They care more about slinging mud across the aisle than protecting the nation.

Anyway... I've gone on more than needed here. Happy Independence Day! (I mean for the United States, not one of the numerous Mexican 'Independence Day' celebrations that are an excuse to get drunk.)
